Who is Medical Appraisal Hub for?

It is for UK doctors preparing for annual medical appraisal and GMC revalidation, including doctors in substantive posts, locum work, training, portfolio careers or without a designated body.

What is included in the app?

The app contains the complete Medical Appraisal Hub guide and private portfolio tools for recording CPD, reflections, teaching, cases, procedures, clinics, theatre activity and quality improvement.

Is this official GMC guidance?

No. Medical Appraisal Hub is an independent practical guide written for UK doctors. It explains appraisal in plain English and links to the relevant GMC and official source material where appropriate.

How do I install it on my phone?

Use the Add to your phone button at the top of Help & Support for instructions matched to your device. On iPhone, use Safari’s Share menu and choose Add to Home Screen. On Android, Chrome may show an Install app or Add to Home screen option.

Why does the install button not open an iPhone prompt?

Apple does not allow websites to open the iPhone installation prompt automatically. The app therefore opens the correct page and shows the short Safari steps you need to follow.

Can I use the guide offline?

The installed app is designed to keep the app shell and guide pages you have recently opened available on your device. Signing in, saving portfolio records and opening private files require an internet connection.

Do I need an account?

You can read the appraisal guide without an account. You need to create an account or log in before you can save private portfolio records and uploaded evidence.

Are my portfolio records private?

Your portfolio records are tied to your signed-in account and are not displayed publicly. Read the GDPR and Privacy Policy for more detail about the information used to operate the service.

What can I record in the portfolio tools?

You can record case-based discussions, reflections, teaching, clinical cases, procedures, theatre and clinic activity, quality improvement, internal CPD, external CPD and other supporting evidence.

Can I upload evidence?

Yes. Relevant record types let you attach a PDF, image, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ODT or text file of up to 10 MB. Never upload patient-identifiable information.

How do I export my records?

Open Appraisal tools and select Records. You can export an individual category in Word or Excel, download uploaded evidence, or export the whole portfolio.

Does this replace FourteenFish?

No. The tools help you collect and organise evidence throughout the year. You can export that material when preparing your formal appraisal portfolio in FourteenFish or another platform used by your designated body.

What must I leave out of portfolio records?

Do not include names, dates of birth, NHS or hospital numbers, addresses, exact dates or unusual combinations of details that could identify a patient. Anonymise reflections from the outset.

Can I use the app on more than one device?

Yes. Sign in with the same account to access your portfolio on a phone, tablet or computer. The app itself can be added to the Home Screen on each supported device.

I found an error. How do I report it?

Please use the and tell us which page you were using, what happened and which phone or browser you were using. Do not include patient information.
