A practical starting point for doctors asked by the GMC to submit an annual return, including appraisal, REV12 and preparation.

Who this guide is for

Doctors without a responsible officer or suitable person may be asked to submit an annual return through GMC Online. Follow the request and deadline the GMC gives you; your individual correspondence sets out what you need to provide.

Before you begin

Check your connection details in GMC Online. Gather the appraisal and practice information requested by the GMC, and identify anything you still need to obtain.

Appraisal and REV12

An annual return is a separate submission from your appraisal. Your appraiser completes the REV12 appraiser report, which is sent to the GMC as part of your return. Agree how this will be completed and supplied before your deadline.

Submitting your return

Work through the questions in GMC Online, check the information and attachments, and submit by the specified date. Keep a copy of your submission and confirmation. Contact the GMC promptly if a requirement or deadline is unclear.
